About the event

Are you keen to get started with bird watching this year but not sure where to begin? The Bird Watching for Beginners course is ideal for all those who want to learn the basics of this fascinating hobby. Over three weekly two hour sessions you will learn how to improve your observation skills, as well as how to use binoculars and telescopes effectively in a range of different habitats. You will also learn how to find birds and interpret their behaviour in the wild, all in the company of a Dorset Wildlife Trust Warden.

We begin the course at Lorton Meadows nature reserve on Wednesday 16 April (6.30-8.30am), where we will be looking for garden/woodland birds.

The second session is on Thursday 24 April (6.30-8.30am), at The Fine Foundation Wild Chesil Centre where we will explore the world of waders and gulls and hopefully find some new spring arrivals.

The third week takes us over to Portland Bill on Wednesday 30 April (6.30-8.30am), to look for seabirds and migratory species.

These events are suitable for beginners to birdwatching and for families, but all children must be accompanied by an adult at all times. The sessions all start early in the morning and last for two hours. Please aim to arrive 5-10 minutes before the start time.

To get the best from the course we advise attendance at all three sessions. The £30 admittance fee reflects this and we therefore advise that tickets are only purchased by those who can attend all three sessions.
